DRONEXA America Rural Nebraska Drone-Integrated STEM Pilot

A proposed research-to-practice implementation and evidence-development model designed to strengthen educator capacity, expand access to emerging-technology learning, support inclusive participation, and connect K–12 STEM experiences with an evolving UAS workforce.

Purpose

From developed resources to real-world educational evidence.

The Rural Nebraska Pilot is being developed as an initial environment in which selected DRONEXA America resources and approaches could be implemented, evaluated, refined, and documented.

The proposed pilot is intended to connect research and resource development with educator preparation, student learning experiences, inclusive mission design, implementation feedback, and evidence that can inform future improvement and adaptation.

Why Rural Nebraska?

A setting for examining access, capacity, and implementation beyond major metropolitan areas.

Rural schools can offer an important environment for examining how emerging-technology STEM opportunities can be introduced where geography, staffing, specialized resources, professional learning access, and local capacity may shape implementation differently.

Demonstration, not geographic limitation

Nebraska is envisioned as an initial evidence-development environment. The broader DRONEXA America model is intended to be adaptable to other educational settings as evidence, resources, and implementation experience develop.

Proposed Implementation Sequence

Four phases from planning to evidence development

Phase I

Partnership & Planning

Define implementation needs, local priorities, roles, readiness considerations, resource requirements, and an appropriate implementation structure.

Phase II

Educator Preparation

Prepare an initial educator cohort through professional learning, safety and regulatory orientation, instructional planning, and use of DRONEXA resources.

Phase III

School Implementation

Implement selected curriculum-aligned drone STEM missions and gather structured feedback on learning, access, feasibility, and educator experience.

Phase IV

Regional Collaboration & Evidence Development

Support shared learning, student opportunities, documentation, evaluation, refinement, and development of evidence for future adaptation.

Educator Capacity

Teachers are central to sustainable implementation.

Instructional Planning

Connect UAS activities to clear learning objectives, curriculum expectations, and appropriate assessment.

Technical Readiness

Build practical familiarity with equipment, mission preparation, basic operations, and troubleshooting.

Safety & Regulatory Awareness

Develop understanding of safe educational practice and the operating framework relevant to planned activities.

Inclusive Mission Design

Plan multiple meaningful participation pathways using principles from Flight Without Limits™.

The proposed pilot would provide an opportunity to examine how accessibility-by-design, multiple UAS mission roles, adaptations, assistive supports, student agency, and inclusive safety planning function in authentic educational settings.
